Résumé
At least at the third bar, playing will be left to the musicians, and teacups will be gently set aside to listen to the music. Our volume features composers of the "front rank": Edward Elgar, Jacques Offenbach, Johann Strauss the Younger. As early as 1900, at the height of the salon music craze, Moritz Moszkowski stood out from the throngs of sentimental tunesmiths with his Spanish Dances. Kurt Noack and Jacob Gade are each enshrined in memory for a single grand coup: Heinzelmannchens Wachtparade and Jalousie. We draw on the salon tradition of opera medleys by presenting tunes from Strauss's Die Fledermaus, a selection of the loveliest pieces from the entire operetta. Our collection is aimed at musicians who want to play in small groups, from duos to quartets. The scoring is variable: the only mandatory parts are Melody I and the piano, which may be replaced by another chordal instrument such as the guitar.
